Credit cards in Australia are revolving credit from issuers we have a live distribution agreement with. If a card is missing, we do not have an apply link that attributes the click. Compare annual fee, purchase p.a., cash-advance cost and any introductory period — rewards are worthless if you revolve a balance at the full rate.

Fee versus interest

A card with no annual fee and a high purchase rate is cheap only if you clear the statement every month. A fee-charging rewards card can still be cheaper if the rewards you actually use beat the fee and you do not revolve. Fees and interest works through that split.

When a loan is the cheaper tool

If the balance will take more than a few months to clear, an instalment personal loan often has a lower p.a. than revolving card credit. Use the loan calculator, then match for a card or a loan without a credit check to browse.

Issuers on this page are licensed in Australia and supervised by APRA and ASIC. See the lender directory and how we compare products.

FAQ

Questions readers in this market ask

Answered with local rules, local supervision and local pricing — not a translated US page.

What card interest rate is normal in Australia?

Revolving balances are priced on each issuer's published p.a.. A rewards card only pays off if you clear the balance in full every month. We do not invent a typical rate.

Who supervises the providers compared on Bankmatch in Australia?

Every institution listed for Australia is supervised by APRA and ASIC. Eligible deposits are covered by Financial Claims Scheme up to $250,000 per depositor and institution.

What does "p.a." mean here?

p.a. is the effective annual cost used in Australia, including interest and mandatory fees. We always show the local measure so figures match the provider's own price list.

Do you check my credit to show matches?

Providers in Australia assess applications with a Equifax Australia. We shortlist on the published minimum criteria only — Bankmatch never runs a credit check.

How current is the pricing on this page?

Every figure on this page is read from the provider's own product feed, so it changes here when the provider changes it rather than when we get round to retyping it. We deliberately do not stamp a verification date on the page: the feed does not record when a provider last reviewed a figure, so any date we printed would be our guess dressed up as a fact. Where a required number is missing from the feed we leave the field empty instead of estimating it.

How does Bankmatch make money?

Providers pay us a fee, and in most cases it falls due only if a reader goes on to be approved for or take up the product; on a few products it is a percentage of the amount borrowed. That never changes the order: it is computed from the price the provider publishes, before any commercial term is read, and placement is not for sale. The methodology page sets out exactly how the order is derived so you can check a list against it.
