For open credit, the figure shown is the annual interest rate as at the date stated, not an annual percentage rate. Every charge that applies at the outset and every periodic charge is shown alongside it.

Labels are derived from the published terms in this list β€” the lowest rate, the fastest stated payout, the widest amount range β€” and are recalculated whenever the list changes. They are not paid placements.

You are comparing this market from outside it. Availability and terms differ by province and state, so this list is limited to products that may be offered in all of them β€” from inside the market you may see more.

Buckmatch is paid by the lenders and banks whose products appear here. Cheapest first. The list is ordered on the all-in annual cost rate each provider publishes β€” the APR, or the effective rate where the market uses that term β€” from lowest to highest. Where a provider publishes a range, the lowest rate in the range is used. How this list is ordered

Payment is usually contingent on you taking up a product β€” being approved, drawing the loan, or being issued the card. It does not affect the order of this list, or the rates and fees shown, which come from the provider. We are not a lender, a mortgage broker or an adviser.

The order is calculated before any commercial term is considered. No provider can pay for a higher position, and products with no published rate appear last.

Buckmatch compares published product terms. We do not give financial, credit, tax or legal advice, we do not assess whether a product is suitable for you, and we cannot tell you whether you will be approved.

Payment does not affect this order. No provider can buy a higher position, and the order is calculated from published rates before any commercial term is considered. Products with no published rate appear last.

Where two products carry the same rate, the earlier one keeps its place. Products we earn nothing from are ordered the same way as products we do.

We do not cover every product on the market. A provider absent from this list is not a judgement about it.

Credit cards in Canada are revolving credit from issuers we have a live distribution agreement with. If a card is missing, we do not have an apply link that attributes the click. Compare annual fee, purchase APR, cash-advance cost and any introductory period β€” rewards are worthless if you revolve a balance at the full rate.

Fee versus interest

A card with no annual fee and a high purchase rate is cheap only if you clear the statement every month. A fee-charging rewards card can still be cheaper if the rewards you actually use beat the fee and you do not revolve. Fees and interest works through that split.

When a loan is the cheaper tool

If the balance will take more than a few months to clear, an instalment personal loan often has a lower APR than revolving card credit. Use the loan calculator, then match for a card or a loan without a credit check to browse.

Issuers on this page are licensed in Canada and supervised by OSFI and the FCAC. See the lender directory and how we compare products.

FAQ

Questions readers in this market ask

Answered with local rules, local supervision and local pricing β€” not a translated US page.

What card interest rate is normal in Canada?

Revolving balances are priced on each issuer's published APR. A rewards card only pays off if you clear the balance in full every month. We do not invent a typical rate.

Who supervises the providers compared on Buckmatch in Canada?

Every institution listed for Canada is supervised by OSFI and the FCAC. Eligible deposits are covered by CDIC coverage up to $100,000 per depositor and institution.

What does "APR" mean here?

APR is the effective annual cost used in Canada, including interest and mandatory fees. We always show the local measure so figures match the provider's own price list.

Do you check my credit to show matches?

Providers in Canada assess applications with a Equifax / TransUnion Canada. We shortlist on the published minimum criteria only β€” Buckmatch never runs a credit check.

How current is the pricing on this page?

Every figure on this page is read from the provider's own product feed, so it changes here when the provider changes it rather than when we get round to retyping it. We deliberately do not stamp a verification date on the page: the feed does not record when a provider last reviewed a figure, so any date we printed would be our guess dressed up as a fact. Where a required number is missing from the feed we leave the field empty instead of estimating it.

How does Buckmatch make money?

Providers pay us a fee, and in most cases it falls due only if a reader goes on to be approved for or take up the product; on a few products it is a percentage of the amount borrowed. That never changes the order: it is computed from the price the provider publishes, before any commercial term is read, and placement is not for sale. The methodology page sets out exactly how the order is derived so you can check a list against it.
