Editorial independence and how we make money

Every provider listed here pays us, so the honest question is not whether we are paid but whether payment can move anything. It cannot move the order, because the order is computed from published price before any commercial term is read.

01

Why payment cannot change the order

The order of a comparison is not a judgement anyone makes. It is computed: loans and cards ascending by the rate the provider publishes, savings and deposits descending by yield, and the basis in force is named at the top of each list. What a provider pays is not one of the inputs, so there is no discretionary step at which it could become one.

We do not sell placement, and there is no sponsored slot to buy — not as a matter of policy we could quietly change, but because nothing in the code can raise a listing above a cheaper one. Where a category has too few licensed providers to order fairly, we publish the list without a ranking rather than imply a winner.

02

How we make money

A provider pays us a fee, and in most cases it falls due only if you are approved, draw the loan or are issued the card — not when you click. On a small number of products the fee is a percentage of the amount borrowed, which means that on those products a larger loan pays us more. We would rather you knew that than take our word for having no interest at all: it is why the order of every list is computed from the published rate before any commercial term is read, and why nothing here recommends a product or an amount to you.

The price you pay is the same whether you arrive through us or go direct. What our commercial arrangements do decide is which providers we can list at all: an offer appears only where we have a live agreement covering your market, so this is a comparison of the providers we can send you to, not a survey of the whole market. We would rather say that plainly than imply a completeness we cannot deliver.

AI policy

We use machine translation and drafting tools to localize copy. Every localized page is reviewed against local product facts before it is indexed.

Rates, fees and legal facts are never generated by a model — they come from the sources listed on the data-sources page.

The section above is the rule. In practice a commercial agreement decides exactly one thing: whether we have an apply link for a provider at all, and therefore whether it can appear in United States. Once a provider is on the page, what it pays is not one of the inputs to the order — that is computed from the published rate before any commercial term is read.

So the honest summary is that this is a comparison of the providers we can send you to, ordered on price, rather than a survey of the whole market. If a list looks wrong, tell us through corrections. To compare anyway: personal loans, mortgages, cards. About the company: about Bankmatch.
